Eclipse phase is an RPG (Role Playing Game). It depicts a far future, where science has broken the limits of human bodies and minds. This is called transhumanism.
This game is big and complex, and the universe is explained through many dense books.

An RPG is a game, where players impersonate characters in a fictional setting, while a DM (Dungeon Master) drives the narrative, describes the surroundings, and impersonates the non playable characters.

The "trans" prefix comes from Latin, and means "beyond". Transhumanism refers to how technologies could leave behind the traditional meaning of humanity through genetics, medical, robotics or computing advance. But this guys explain it better than myself.
